Abstract

PATLAN PEREZ, Juana. Effect of burnout and work overload on the quality of work life. estud.gerenc. [online]. 2013, vol.29, n.129, pp.445-455. ISSN 0123-5923.

The burnout syndrome occurs in workers who have contact with customers or clients. The aim of this study was to determine the effect of burnout and work overload on the quality of work life (QWL) in personnel at a health institute in Mexico. Cross-sectional and descriptive research was conducted with a stratified sample of 673 workers. Four scales were used to measure work overload, burnout, and two dimensions of QWL: work-family conflict (WFC) and job satisfaction. The results indicate a positive and significant effect of work overload on burnout and WFC, and a negative effect on job satisfaction. Furthermore, burnout is associated positively with WFC, and negatively with job satisfaction.

Keywords : Work overload; Burnout; Job satisfaction; Work-family conflict; Quality of work life.
