This study analyzed the mediating effect of social capital on the relationship between shared leadership in the management teams of Colombian companies and organizational performance. Through a survey applied to 113 directors of Colombian companies, a structural equation model was evaluated using the methodology of partial least squares. It was identified that the shared leadership of the management team has a positive effect on the organizational performance and that social capital exerts a total mediation in this relationship. The findings highlight the importance of sharing leadership responsibilities to foster social capital in organizations and thus achieve organizational objectives with improved performance.
