Abstract

MARIN COLORADO, Paula Andrea. THE RECENT COLOMBIAN NOVEL AND THE MARKET: CRITICS AGAINST READERS. THE CASES OF MARIO MENDOZA, JORGE FRANCO AND SANTIAGO GAMBOA. Lit. teor. hist. crit. [online]. 2012, vol.14, n.1, pp.17-49. ISSN 0123-5931.

The Mendoza, Franco and Gamboa's works have been discredited by the current specialized cultural and academic criticism, although, in the beginning of their careers as writers, it was supposed that they would renovate the Colombian novel form. This fact can be explained through the current Colombian literary field, which works according to two systems of symbolic distinctions, according to the transformation of the Colombian literary field in the 90's. Such changes influenced the structure of preferences too.

Keywords : Colombian novel; Colombian literary field; Jorge Franco; Mario Mendoza; publishing house industry; Santiago Gamboa.
