Abstract

PEDRAZA RODRIGUEZ, Amanda. Questioning the New Poetry: Notes on the Literary Debate over the Work of Luis de Góngora. Lit. teor. hist. crit. [online]. 2015, vol.17, n.1, pp.11-48. ISSN 0123-5931.  https://doi.org/10.15446/lthc.v17n1.48684.

Through a review of the most relevant critical discourses triggered by the publication of Luis de Góngora's major works, the article discusses the theoretical foundations that nurtured the debate on poetry that took place during the first half of the 17th century, which were based on the classical tradition, particularly the poetics of Plato, Aristotle, and Horace. Specifically, the paper analyzes the different positions reflected in these documents with respect to the essential issues posed by Góngora's poetry, such as the correspondences between genres and styles, lexical innovations, and poetic obscurity.

Keywords : Luis de Góngora; poetry of the Golden Age; classical rhetoric and poetics; literary theory; literary criticism.
