Resumen
MARIN COLORADO, Paula Andrea. Arturo Suárez Dennis (1887-1956): Novelist of "True Love". Lit. teor. hist. crit. [online]. 2018, vol.20, n.1, pp.11-37. ISSN 0123-5931. https://doi.org/10.15446/lthc.v20n1.67216.
Despite his importance for understanding processes such as the growth of the reading public in the first half of the twentieth century and the consolidation of the book market in the country, Colombian writer Arturo Suárez has been ignored in the histories of national literature. The literary critics with the greatest symbolic capital at the time read Arturo Suárez as a commercial author of limited literary value. This article aims to question these assessments by discussing three points: first, Suárez's social trajectory and literary career; second, the condition of the Colombian literary field at the time; and third, the analysis of the author's novels, which will examine the proposals of the sentimental novel and the way in which these novels manage to articulate key social values and experiences of the period in which they were published.
