PEREZ, Edith Beatriz. Anthropological Mutation: The Legacy of Pier Paolo Pasolini in the Conceptions of Alessandro Baricco. Lit. teor. hist. crit. [online]. 2018, vol.20, n.1, pp.227-245. ISSN 0123-5931.  https://doi.org/10.15446/lthc.v20n1.67633.

This note analyzes the assumptions underlying Italian writer Alessandro Baricco's interpretation of the phenomenon known as anthropological mutation. It does so by proposing a critical dialogue between the postmodern conception set forth by the author in I barbari. Saggio sulla mutazione and the position adopted by his colleague Pier Paolo Pasolini in the Italy of the 1960's and 70's. To begin with, the paper inquires into the interpretation of that reality that led Pasolini to use the term "anthropological mutation" for the first time: what were its origins, consequences, and subsequent projections? The study then focuses on the relations between the definition of "barbarism" in Pasolini and that of "barbarians" in Baricco. Finally, the note explains the similarities (and differences) between the two authors on the basis of the increasing importance of anthropological mutation in the evolution of humankind.
