Resumen
ZABALA, Óscar. Los Moriscos (1845) by Juan José Nieto: Aesthetic Evaluation of the War of the Suprêmes (1840-1845). Lit. teor. hist. crit. [online]. 2019, vol.21, n.1, pp.253-276. ISSN 0123-5931. https://doi.org/10.15446/lthc.v21n1.74872.
The article attempts an aesthetic appreciation of Juan José Nieto's Los moriscos (1845) from a socio-critical perspective. Because the novel is anchored in the context of the start of the 19th century civil wars in Colombia, it is interpreted as adopting a stance in view of the party politics that led to that situation. Our objective is to go beyond those approaches that either see the work as a document, or interpret it on the basis of biographical data. The analysis is divided into two parts. First, it explores the compositional aspects (genre and characters) of the work, acknowledging its mainly political and religious values. Secondly, it contextualizes these values in order to determine Nieto's position: one of pessimism regarding the fratricidal war that broke out in early 1840.
