GARCIA, María Verónica Ibarra. Tensions and Conflicts for the Water in the Real Estate Boom of Tecamac, Mexico. Territ. [online]. 2017, n.37, pp.81-99. ISSN 0123-8418. https://doi.org/10.12804/revistas.urosario.edu.co/territorios/a.4818.
The tensions and conflicts for divergent water uses in the municipality of Tecamac will be analy zed in this article. Hegemonic political and economic actors are considered in their attempts and concretion of water deprivation as a second nature, the counter-hegemonic actors who resist the spoils are also identified. Among them are the original inhabitants, organized in a community-based Water Supply System (SAPT, as it is known in Spanish), now constituted as a Civil Association (A.C., as it is known in Spanish), who have opposed attempts to dispossess them by the City Council, cu rrently ran by Aaron Urbina Bedolla. Also, the new residents of the recent low-income residential developments that have taken legal action against real estate companies and the city council for failure in the water supply are presented. The study is made from a critical geography perspective based on the articulation of various scales in the local to concretize the production of space as the guiding axis of analysis, in megaproject key under the neoliberal logic. The study was based on primary and secondary sources.
