Abstract
PARAMO, Pablo; BURBANO, Andrea; PALOMO-VELEZ, Gonzalo and MOYANO, Emilio. Public Space Assessment ofMidsize Cities of Chile from the Perspective of the Inhabitants: Implications for Urban Intervention. Territ. [online]. 2018, n.39, pp.135-156. ISSN 0123-8418. https://doi.org/10.12804/revistas.urosario.edu.co/territorios/a.6203.
The personal assessments of the importance and satisfaction of public space by 138 community respondents from Talca (Chile) were the subject of this research. The sample answered a questionnaire of 47 items referring to the importance and satisfaction in relation to different aspects of the public space of the city. A multidimensional scaling analysis shows that people valued health conditions, music concerts, the environment, sports spaces and mobility as the most important aspects for quality of urban life, while reported being dissatisfied with various aspects of public space, in particular, with noise and commerce in the streets. All specific dimensions of satisfaction are positively correlated with global satisfaction with the quality of public space. The results are discussed regarding the need for the generation of quality of urban life assessment mechanisms and their incorporation into urban planning and management.
