PALUMBO, Joseph. The Growing Share of Renter Households in Argentina: A Socio-Demographic Analysis. Territ. [online]. 2023, n.48, pp.1-. Epub 05-Out-2023. ISSN 0123-8418. https://doi.org/10.12804/revistas.urosario.edu.co/territorios/a.12291.
In recent decades, a growing percentage of urban households in Argentina have become renters, representing a break with the country's previous trend of expanding owner occupation. However, it can be argued that this growth of renting as a form of housing tenure has not affected all social groups equally. Based on a descriptive and multivariate statistical analysis, this article explores some specificities of the increase in renter households in Argentina's cities. Logistic regression models with demographic and socioeconomic variables show that this process has primarily involved households headed by younger people, in particular those aged 30 to 49, although a greater likelihood of renting can also be observed among households with higher socioeconomic status. Furthermore, some evidence suggests that these trends have become more pronounced over time. The article concludes with a hypothesis regarding the formation of a "generation rent" in Argentina, while pointing to some of the implications of this analysis.
