The following article carries out an exploratory investigation into armed strikes in Colombia. Despite being used by irregular groups in our armed conflicts and others, it has been little studied. Armed strikes were conceptualized as a type of repertoire of violence used by irregular groups to exercise their armed governance and demonstrate territorial control or send a message. Based on a documentary review of secondary sources, an original database was built on the armed strikes that ocurred in the last 22 years in Colombia. Some preliminary conclusions indicate that the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia (farc-ep) and the National Liberation Army (eln) have been the guerrillas that resorted to this practice the most, although it was later also adopted by paramilitary groups and post-demobilization groups from the United Self-Defense Forces of Colombia (auc). This is the first academic research that has studied armed strikes in a systematic way.
