Abstract

CAMACHO, Álvaro. The Sixties: A Personal Memoire . rev.estud.soc. [online]. 2009, n.33, pp.70-78. ISSN 0123-885X.

This article narrates the personal experiences of a Colombian sociologist during the 1960s. It is an attempt to describe some of the period's most salient aspects and to relate them to the author's own experiences. It characterizes the 1960s as a period of profound social transformations in Colombia and the world. Colombia saw the fall of the military government and the beginning of the Frente Nacional, which implied the restoration of political democracy and important changes in state administration, political parties, and political practices, particularly in Colombia's National University. Worldwide, the decade witnessed a cultural revolution that transformed the public presence of young people. The article underlines the relationship between biography and social processes as a basic component of sociology.

Keywords : Memory; Social Change; Democracy; Political Parties; Youth Culture; Biography; Sociology.
