This article analyzes the public and private positions and actions of various groups and evangelical organizations from the beginning of the military dictatorship in 1973 to achievement of the law of religious freedom and equality and of worship in 1999. It also analyzes the role of the main evangelical groups for solidarity and the defense of human rights, as well as demonstrations for the separation of state and religion, against the military dictatorship, and in favor of the law of equality of religion. Finally, it refers to different questionings on the part of evangelical groups interested in politics, and their attempt to become integrated either collectively or individually into the political life of the country.
