PAZ HERRERA, Marcela. Transnational Networks of Indigenous Organizations: Analysis of the Use of Networks in Socio-Environmental Conflicts. rev.estud.soc. [online]. 2016, n.55, pp.63-72. ISSN 0123-885X. https://doi.org/10.7440/res55.2016.04.
The article is the result of a doctoral research project that addressed the issue of contemporary indigenous policies by analyzing the formation and use of transnational networks of indigenous organizations within the context of socio-environmental conflicts. It was a case study involving a transnational indigenous coalition and three socio-environmental conflicts caused by the installation and development of extractive exploitation projects. The theoretical focus entailed a review of the concepts of civil society, transnational social movements, and ethnicity. The last of these was done considering that ethnic vindication is explained by the formation of supra-local and transnational ties. In the case analyzed, the leading role played by non-governmental organizations within this network was evident.
