Abstract

SAIDEL, Matías Leandro. Reinventions of the Common: Toward a Revision of Some Recent Debates. rev.estud.soc. [online]. 2019, n.70, pp.10-24. ISSN 0123-885X.  https://doi.org/10.7440/res70.2019.02.

This article seeks to think of the common in a shift from the philosophical to the political. We begin with the contributions of Jean-Luc Nancy and Roberto Esposito to think of the common in ontological and impolitic terms. Next, we comment on Garrett Hardin's theory of the tragedy of the commons and its rebuttal by Elinor Ostrom and others. Further on, we tackle the new wave of enclosures of the commons and the possibility of its reinvention to meet the expectations of the political, economic, social and environmental challenges of the XXI century. To this end, we comment on the reflections by Hardt and Negri, and Dardot and Laval, who theorize the common in political terms, emphasizing the dimension of instituent praxis.

Keywords : Common; expropriation; instituent praxis; new enclosures; tragedy of the commons..
