Abstract

The Framework Convention on Tobacco Control (FCTC) is considered the first global public health treaty, it is expected to reverse the tobacco worlds epidemic by implementing a series of strategies, among which is the MPOWER package of measures. This paper is a review of the measures level of compliance, and to identifies the differences between Colombia, Costa Rica, Ecuador and Peru in terms of tobacco control progress, making special emphasis in the level of implementation in Colombia. This paper is based on literature review from LILACS and Medline on tobacco control measures in these four countries, using the MPOWER reports published by WHO until 2017. The analysis of the progress made in each country, give a critical look to continue smoking control and strengthen actions, in order to achieve a positive impact on the burden of the disease.
