In this article, we present the results of a technical and economic study, conducted to establish the potential uses of urban solid waste (USW) as a thermal energy source, using the thermolysis as basic technology of the process. It took as a control group to the Facatativá (Cundinamarca) town. Were projected to the year 2020. They were characterized USW produced by industry, economic activity, topology of the municipality and socio-economic strata of the population. It won the USW calorific lower half.
