The present paper describes the necessary process associated to the design and construction of a knowledge management system intended to support the work of research groups. The design of such a system implied defining the system requirements, its operation, and the way value itself is created together with knowledge processes and business intelligence (within research groups). In order to build the proposed knowledge management system, technological tools were aligned with the knowledge management activities associated to research groups. Hence the platform called LMS Moodle was adapted to support the proper operation of the whole system. The arricie first presents a description of background studies, followed by the methodology and a description of the knowledge management system. Finally, preliminary results and future work are presented, followed by some concluding remarks.
