Abstract

LEMUS BERNAL, Camilo Andrés; ESTUPINAN CUESTA, Edith Paola  and  GUILLEN PINTO, Edward Paul. Performance evaluation of optical networks for telemedicine applications in simulated enviroments. Tecnura [online]. 2013, vol.17, n.36, pp.21-40. ISSN 0123-921X.

Telemedicine networks allow remote delivery of medical services. Each service uses some applications, such as videoconference or audio-conference in order to conduct medical procedures. These services imply certain minimum requirements to ensure appropriate performance. At present, Universidad Militar Nueva Granada has no such tele-medicine network for academic purposes, where students (medicine students and researchers) can deploy some e-health services. In this paper, we propose an optical network for telemedicine services intended to connect two of the headquarters of Universidad Militar Nueva Granada. Then we evaluate the performance of the network according to application requirements. Finally, we compare the performance of the optical network and the values stated by international standards.

Keywords : quality of service; optical networks; simulation; medical information systems; telemedicine.
