Abstract

PERICO-GRANADOS, Néstor Rafael et al. Flood sites caused by the La Vega and Jordán rivers, Tunja (Boyacá). Tecnura [online]. 2021, vol.25, n.67, pp.86-101.  Epub July 12, 2021. ISSN 0123-921X.  https://doi.org/10.14483/22487638.15248.

Context:

The La Vega and Jordán rivers, located in the city of Tunja, have presented overflow events in the urban area of the city and it is necessary to identify the critical points of the channels susceptible to overflow and propose solutions.

Methodology:

Based on the research entitled "Hydrodynamic modeling for the identification of flood zones in the city of Tunja" and "Diagnosis of the flood zones of the Jordan and La Vega rivers in the urban area of the city of Tunja", they were analyzed the results obtained in each one, with respect to the flood scenarios caused by the two rivers, the proposals were reviewed and a reflection was made about them.

Results:

In each one of them there is evidence of a deficient coexistence of the city with the water resource. Likewise, the flood maps obtained by means of the two-dimensional model IBER, the hydrological model of rain and runoff in HEC-HMS 4.1 and the hydraulic model using HEC-RAS 4.1 are observed.

Conclusions:

It is observed in the characterization of the La Vega river, that it does not have channeling. In the Jordan River there is very partial channeling, with a deficient coexistence with the surrounding population. This increases the pollution of the waters in both rivers. In this regard, for a return period of 20 years the overflow of the La Vega River would affect neighborhoods such as La María, Pozo Donato and UPTC (Pedagogical and Technological University of Colombia) and the Jordan River would do the same in the neighborhoods Ciudad Jardín, Comprehensive Rehabilitation Center of Boyacá and Bachue urbanization. The construction of works to avoid overflows is proposed and with this the problem downstream is transferred. Likewise, there are no proposals to regulate flows and little reforestation is done with native trees.
