Objective:
The purpose of the research was to compare, from both quantitative and qualitative data, the use of STEAMRW in the learning computer programming process in Systems Engineering.
Methodology:
This article shows the results of a research made in an Engineering program in two parallel computer programming courses over three years. In one of them the STEAM methodology was adopted complementing with active and constant Reading / Writing (RW) strategy and in the other course, this was taught based on the traditional methodology of university teaching.
Results:
The findings demonstrate that the STEAMRW methodology provides the student with a series of competencies that go beyond simple thematic knowledge and are decisive for improve their professional skills in the 21st century.
Conclusions:
It is concluded that it is very convenient for teachers of engineering programs to be trained in it so that they understand the dimension of this methodology and the advantages they can access from the perspective of learning by their students.
