NUNEZ GOMEZ, Nicolás A; COUTIN MARIE, Gisele y PARDO TORRES, Patricia. Life expectancy of Colombians with and without considering violence. 1994 - 1996. Rev. salud pública [online]. 2001, vol.3, n.3, pp.283-290. ISSN 0124-0064.
The relative weight of mortality due to violence on life expectancy was quantified considering future circumstances of peace and understanding. Mortality due to violence is an indicator that synthesizes mortality and contributes to the diagnosis of the social and economical realities of a geographical area. In this study of life expectancy trends, it was assumed that mortality due to violence was equal to zero. The results indicate that eliminating this type of mortality might increase life expectancy in up to four years, especially in the younger population.
