Abstract

URRA-TOBAR, Benito Alonso. Strategies employed by sports kinesiologists in the management of the psychological impact of sports injury. Rev. salud pública [online]. 2022, vol.24, n.2, pp.1-.  Epub June 15, 2023. ISSN 0124-0064.  https://doi.org/10.15446/rsap.v24n2.95935.

Objective

To analyze the strategies used by sports kinesiologists to intervine on mental states in the process of recovery from a sports injury.

Method

A semi-structured interview was conducted on a sample of 8 male professionals, aged between 26 and 45 years old (M=35.25 years old) and with work experience between 4 and 17 years old (M=9.38 years).

Results

Intervention techniques specifically aimed to the management the mental state of the injured athlete are used, tending to associate psychological intervention, in the first place, with relational aspects such as communication and empathy and, on a second level, with emotional and mood states. Likewise, there is a sense of emptiness in the formation of these techniques, due to numerous factors, promoting a self-taught training. Among the mentioned strategies stands out the social support as a means to generate a level of confidence that allows to educate and generate adherence to the recovery process. Finally, the multidisciplinary work is considered necessary, this is conceived in analytical and independent between the professionals involved.

Conclusions

It is necessary to implement specific training processes in psychological intervention techniques on cognitive and emotional aspects based on interpersonal coping currently emphasized, contributing to the interdisciplinary work of the professional team based on common and specific knowledge and resources in each work dimension.
