Background: Prenatal care, healthy diet, recommended supplements intake, and knowledge of signs and symptoms related with adverse consequences are key factors for a success pregnancy. Objective: To describe the knowledge about food recommendations during pregnancy, and food and supplements intake in pregnant women. Materials and methods: A descriptive study was developed. 295 pregnant women from 12 Antioquia's localities were recruited. Women were beneficiaries of a food complementary program. Results: 60 % of interviewed pregnant didn't have knowledge about food intake recommendations during pregnancy. 75 % did not identify the main sources of calcium, iron, and folic acid on a diet. 74.6% consumed calcium rich foods at least three times at week and 47.5% more than five times at week. 90.5% never or rarely consumed folic acid rich foods; nevertheless 87.0 % consumed micronutrients supplements. A low educational level increased the low intake of fruit and vegetables (50%), iron (40%) and calcium (20%) sources (p<0.05). A low income increased the low intake of fruit and vegetables, and iron and calcium sources by 20 % (p<0.05). Conclusions: Most of the evaluated pregnant did not have information about food intake recommendations during pregnancy. It is necessary to develop education strategies to increases this knowledge and promote healthy food intake habits during pregnancy in this population.
