Abstract

CHACANA OJEDA, Marcelo; GELDES GONZALEZ, Cristian  and  OSORIO ZELADA, Hugo. The Role of Proximity in the University-Industry-Government Cooperation: The Case of the Agri-Food Industry in the Region of Coquimbo, Chile. rev.univ.empresa [online]. 2019, vol.21, n.36, pp.61-78. ISSN 0124-4639.  https://doi.org/10.12804/revistas.urosario.edu.co/empresa/a.6057.

The present study proposes the proximity of economic geography approach on the theoretical basis of the triple helix model to determine the cooperation relations between university, enterprise and government (U-E-G). The research is presented through a case study of the agri-food sector in the region of Coquimbo in Chile, which is intended to be an approximation to the importance of proximity for the triple helix in the linking and cooperation for the creation of new knowledge and of innovation activities. To determine this relationship, we used Chi-square statistical tests with their corresponding association measures for qualitative variables and Kruskal-Wallis for ordinal variables. It can be pointed out that the main element that hinders the cooperation of the Triple Helix is when various visions and objectives between the different organizations are presented. The dimension of proximity that favors university-enterprise-government cooperation in the agri-food sector in the region of Coquimbo, reaching a level of significance of a = 0.1, proved to be the social dimension.

Keywords : Proximity; cooperation; innovation; triple helix model; region of Coquimbo.
