Abstract

Objective:

The purpose of this study was to determine the knowledge and habits in personal finance (pf) of the students of the Business Administration Program of the Universidad Surcolombiana (Huila - Colombia).

Methodology:

A mixed approach was used, with descriptive scope, a descriptive transectional non-experimental design and grounded theory to create the pf model. The statistical analysis was performed with Statgraphics Centurion XVI software, with a significance level of less than 0.05, a questionnaire of 84 questions was used, validated by experts, to a sample of 175 students enrolled between 2019 and 2023, with a population of 319 students, a margin of error of 5 % and a confidence level of 95 %.

Key findings:

On average, 44.78 % of the students passed the knowledge test and 51.69 % passed the habits test, indicating that more than half of the respondents present dEFiciencies in knowledge and habits in pf.

Conclusions:

Students require improving their knowledge and habits in pf, led by the Ministry of National Education, public and private educational institutions, in addition to including this subject transversally in the curricula.
