Abstract

CONTRERAS, Martha Yánez  and  ACEVEDO GONZALEZ, Karina. ACCESS TO WATER FOR HUMAN CONSUMPTION IN COLOMBIA. Rev.econ.inst. [online]. 2013, vol.15, n.29, pp.125-148. ISSN 0124-5996.

ABSTRACT Access to water is a human right that must be guaranteed without discrimination. This article examines the existence of inequalities in the enjoyment of this human right through a discriminant analysis that identifies the factors that explain differences in levels of water quality for human consumption in the Colombian municipalities during the year 2009. The results indicate that there is statistical evidence of the existence of inequalities. In particular, poorest municipalities register the worst levels of water quality for human consumption.

Keywords : distribution of water quality to human consumption; discriminant analysis; equity.
