Abstract

PATINO ARANGO, ALEJANDRO. LA FILOSOFÍA DEL LENGUAJE DE LOCKE. discus.filos [online]. 2006, vol.7, n.10, pp.149-168. ISSN 0124-6127.

By analyzing Book III of An Essay Concerning Human Understanding, I Intend to illustrate how we can find in this work of Locke's some elements that were developed later in Twentieth Century Analytical Philosophy. I discuss this influence by means of Locke's analysis of the role of language in the problem of knowledge, which leads him (among other things) to criticize metaphysics, to conceive the notion of a metalanguage, to analyze the different functions of language, and to postulate the notion of sense and lack of sense. I argue for the view that we can find these notions in Locke's views.

Keywords : Metaphysics; Truth; Metalanguage; Sense; Uses of Language; Analysis.
