Abstract

FLOREZ RESTREPO, Jorge Alejandro. IS ARISTOTLE A NOMINALIST?. discus.filos [online]. 2008, vol.9, n.13, pp.45-70. ISSN 0124-6127.

The traditional debate on universals is treated here from the ancient point of view, specifically from the Aristotelian perspective. Aristotle’s view on Platonism is reviewed here, and a attempt to analyze how strong is his rejection of his master’s idealism is made. If Aristotle rejected completely Plato’s idealism he will become a nominalist, otherwise we would have to investigate in which aspects Aristotle continued maintaining the existence of form over matter.

Keywords : Debate on universals; hylemorfism; substance; hypokeimenon; esencialism.
