Resumen

GARCIA, Carlos Emilio  y  ARANGO, Pablo R.. Science's neutrality and the conflict between reason and passions. discus.filos [online]. 2010, vol.11, n.17, pp.223-237. ISSN 0124-6127.

This essays discusses, firstly, the thesis of science's neutrality. In the light of the views of logical positivism, the possible meanings of this thesis are examined, as well as their plausibility. Secondly, we analyze the problem of the relationships between evil and good. Appealing to certain Humean views, we argue that the problem does not lie in science itself, but in the irrational side of human nature. We conclude that what is needed to face the big destructive threats that come from certain applications of science is not a change in the rational side of man, but precisely a change in its irrational side.

Palabras clave : good; science; ethics; Hume; evil; science neutrality; passion; reason.
