Abstract

CONTRERAS, Sebastián. The role of the will in the determination of natural law. A study from the teachings of: Domingo de Soto, Luis de León and Francisco Suárez. discus.filos [online]. 2013, vol.14, n.23, pp.253-278. ISSN 0124-6127.

This paper is an exposition about the role of will in the determination of natural law. In my opinion, the act of determination implies, essentially, a movement of the appetite which, unlike physical causality, is completely free and not necessary. In this sense, and because freedom of authority is total, the will can choose any of the available alternatives that solve a problem of coordination. This is the doctrine of Aquinas, and as I try to show here, is also the thesis of Domingo de Soto, Luis de Leon and Francisco Suárez.

Keywords : Determination of natural law; Domingo de Soto; Francisco Suárez; Luis de León; Aquinas; will.
