Abstract

HOYOS MORALES, Jorge Iván. Reason, rationality, reasonableness in the argumentative school of lugano. discus.filos [online]. 2016, vol.17, n.29, pp.111-131. ISSN 0124-6127.  https://doi.org/10.17151/difil.2016.17.29.8.

This article introduces Lugano's school and deals with the term "reason" by using the powerful metaphor of "reason, organ of everything", the principle of compositionality and the phenomenological-hermeneutical tradition. I make clear that the human being is both reason and desire. These scholars realize two important elements when producing, analyzing and evaluating arguments: critical consistency and emotive congruence. In the last part, I give a list of five essential characteristics of reasonableness assumed as the final value sought by argumentation. I emphasize that this may be an opportunity for a valuable contribution to the pragmadialectical program.

Keywords : Argumentation; rhetoric; reasonableness; Lugano; emotive congruence.
