MEJIA MURILLO, María Fernanda. Is Colombia a diasporic and transnational Nation? Analysis of Colombia's new discourse towards it's diaspora. Justicia [online]. 2014, n.26, pp.137-156. ISSN 0124-7441.

Due to the large numbers of Colombians who have left their country in the last decade and a half, Colombia has adopted a new discourse as well as a new set of rights specifically designed for the diaspora. Hence, Colombia now defines itself as diasporic and transnational nation, bringing forward unprecedented changes on how the institution and exercise of citizenship is conceived. In light of the proposals coming from the transnational citizenship model, this article examines and analyzes the scope to which this new set of rights brings Colombia closer or not to a new transnational citizenship status. We argue that, despite generating important transformations on the idea and exercise of citizenship, the consolidation of a transnational citizenship status is still far from materializing.
