Abstract

OLMEDO NERI, Raul Anthony. The decolonial journey of Latin America. Three critical approaches by Aníbal Quijano. Justicia [online]. 2023, vol.28, n.44, pp.197-206.  Epub Dec 30, 2023. ISSN 0124-7441.  https://doi.org/10.17081/just.28.44.6991.

The articulation between globalization and development not only finds its place in the purely economic sphere but is intrinsically linked to the colonization process of Latin America just over 500 years ago. This connection was extensively explored by Aníbal Quijano; through the theory of the coloniality of power, he identified that globalization and development are grounded in the process of differentiation derived from the Eurocentric vision, as well as in the process of racialization that was implanted in the region. In this context, the present study analyzes Quijano’s contributions regarding race, the power pattern, and Modernity, as his critical potential transcends the economic realm to pave the way for a reordering of the history of globalization and the notion of development that have structurally emerged from the subjugation of the region.

Keywords : decoloniality; eurocentrism; development; modernity; globalization.
