Abstract

CASTANO AGUIRRE, Carlos Alberto  and  GARCIA ORDONEZ, Iván Darío. Power, inequalities and violence over the subjects that occupy the public space. Bitácora Urbano Territorial [online]. 2021, vol.31, n.2, pp.59-72.  Epub Sep 20, 2021. ISSN 0124-7913.  https://doi.org/10.15446/bitacora.v31n2.89305.

It is in the public space where the complexities of social life are woven, which have logical immersions of exercises of power and dominance that determine and constitute us but that transform with time. Each space is the result of a specific social context, situated in space-time, and of the tensions and disputes between the various subjects and groups that coexist and influence it. The objective of this work is to deepen and problematize power relations, social inequalities and violence that emerge and unfold in the public space through a research with a critical social approach, supported by a pluralism of methods and techniques for the interpretation of the different realities that take place in the Plazoleta de la quindianidad, located in the Municipal Administrative Center sector, Armenia (Quindío, Colombia). The conditions of marginality that occur in the public space are not homogeneous nor do they correspond to a single form of discrimination or inequality: even in social relations within, between marginalized occupying subjects, multiple inequalities and power organizations are reflected.

Keywords : social inequality; urban space; social structure; violence.
