Abstract

TRACHANA, Angelique. Performative envelopes and “the city scene”. Bitácora Urbano Territorial [online]. 2021, vol.31, n.2, pp.173-187.  Epub Sep 24, 2021. ISSN 0124-7913.  https://doi.org/10.15446/bitacora.v31n2.85992.

Today's new building envelopes tend to satisfy requests of various kinds, both internal to buildings and external to the urban environment. The design of new architectural skins has developed treatments close to art and as well as communication with new materials, finishes, textures, colors, lights, and technological means. The objective of this work is to study some of the most significant changes in the behavior of architectural envelopes in the urban environment. In the study, two characteristic processes are verified: de-materialization and virtuality in the scenographic and dynamic role played by the envelopes, in the configuration of the urban environment, and their involvement in the daily life of citizens.

Keywords : architecture; urban space; communication; digitization.
