Resumen

OJEDA DE LA CRUZ, Arturo et al. Sociodemographic, urbanization and climate effects on domestic water consumption in Hermosillo, Sonora. Bitácora Urbano Territorial [online]. 2021, vol.31, n.2, pp.243-256.  Epub 27-Sep-2021. ISSN 0124-7913.  https://doi.org/10.15446/bitacora.v31n2.86577.

This paper presents the result of an investigation of domestic water consumption in the city of Hermosillo, Sonora, Mexico. The study was carried out at the Basic Geostatistical Area level to determine the urban effects of a socio-demographic, climatic and urbanization type that influence water consumption. We use the data registered in the operating agency Agua de Hermosillo, as well as the census indicators registered by the National Institute of Geography and Information Statistics (INEGI) with their respective urban cartography. The correlation between the independent variables and water consumption was analyzed. Consecutively, the best model of water consumption was determined through multiple linear regression using ordinary least squares. The analysis revealed that the statistically significant variables that explain domestic water consumption with a proportion of 47.5% of the variability, were the total population, the economically inactive population, the 15-year-old population with incomplete basic studies, the population density and the pluvial precipitation. The results can contribute to improve the current knowledge of the factors that influence the use of water and be useful in planning the water resource in the urban supply.
