Abstract

PERREN, Joaquín; LAMFRE, Laura  and  PEREZ, Germán. Inequality and Quality-of- Life in Patagonia. A look at the Agglomeration of Neuquén. Bitácora Urbano Territorial [online]. 2022, vol.32, n.1, pp.219-232.  Epub July 11, 2022. ISSN 0124-7913.  https://doi.org/10.15446/bitacora.v32n1.95991.

This article addresses the problem of inequality in the conurbation of Neuquén, located in the northernmost strip of Argentine Patagonia. In order to deal with this question, a tour composed of three sections is proposed. In the first one, a description of the context that served as the setting (and conditioning) of the phenomenon of socio-spatial differentiation that we intend to address is provided. Then, the concept of quality of life is presented as an adequate device to address intertwined social inequalities. In this sense, a Quality-of-Life Index (QLI) is used, condensing educational, health, housing and environmental information. Finally, a map of the well-being of the Neuquén conurbation is presented, taking advantage of the potential of the information gathered by the 2010 National Population and Housing Census and the implementation of geographic information systems.

Keywords : urbanization; quality of life; inequality; we ll-being.
