Abstract

Introduction.

Tuberculosis is both a public and occupational health problem highly prevalent in susceptible groups, such as health workers.

Objective.

To describe the tuberculosis infection control strategies implemented among 51 health institutions.

Methods.

Cross-sectional study. The instruments used for data collection were validated by experts. A statistical analysis included the descriptive analysis and the univariate analysis of the data were conducted.

Results.

In regards with the implementation of administrative strategies, 68,6% (N=37) of the health facilities had plans for tuberculosis infection control. Concerning the environmental strategies, 16,3% (N=8) had natural y/o mechanic ventilation. Among the strategies for personal protection, 84,3% (N=43) provided N-95 respirators to their workers.

Conclusion.

It is advisable to improve the organization of administrative, environmental and personal strategies to control the tuberculosis infection. This will allow reducing the prevalence of tuberculosis infection among health workers.
