Introduction:

The Palliative Care Quiz for Nursing (PQCN) is an instrument used internationally to assess the level of basic knowledge in palliative care in Nursing. There are PCQN validations in France, Iran, Korea and Spain, validation is required in Colombia. The objective of this study was to adapt and validate the PCQN to the Colombian context in undergraduate nursing students.

Materials and methods:

Psychometric validation study conducted in the second semester of 2022. The content validity process was developed with 13 experts who evaluated clarity, comprehension, precision, relevance, and coherence; agreement between judges was calculated with the modified Lawshe index. The facial validity process was developed with 17 nursing students, who were asked about the understanding, recovery, judgment and adequacy of the instrument through a cognitive interview.

Results:

The 20 PCQN items had a CVI equal to or greater than 0,61, 13 items had semantic adjustments, 4 had content adjustments, and 3 items did not adjust. In the cognitive interview with the nursing students, it was determined that the 20 items of the instrument have adequate comprehension, recovery, judgment, and adequacy, which shows that it is valid in terms of content, phrasing, and importance of the question, in addition to the adequacy of the questions. the answer options.

Conclusion:

The PCQN is an adapted and valid instrument to be used in the Colombian context with nursing students. The instrument is useful to be used in the clinical, and research context.
