VICTORIA CALAMBAS, Fanor Alirio; MARMOLEJO REBELLON, Luís Fernando y TORRES LOZADA, Patricia. ALTERNATIVES TO STRENGTHEN VALUATION OF RECYCLABLE MATERIAL AT SOLID-WASTE MANAGEMENT PLANTS IN SMALL TOWNS. Cienc. Ing. Neogranad. [online]. 2012, vol.22, n.1, pp.59-73. ISSN 0124-8170.
ABSTRACT Colombian solid-waste management plants -SWMP- have been increasingly included in solid-waste management of specific small towns. However, although they are environmentally desirable their profitability has been questioned. This paper includes options to strengthen the valuation of a recoverable fraction of municipal solid waste -MSW- using as a reference three towns of Valle del Cauca. To carry out this project, the solid waste composition, the SWMP functioning and the product market were analyzed. Recyclable materials, besides reaching proportions higher than 13.7 percent of MSW are the most profitable line by SWMP. Their valuation, besides contributing to solve priority problems of these towns, such as unemployment and inadequate MSW management has a potential economy payback.
