HERNANDEZ ATENCIA, Yelena  y  RAMIREZ ARCILA, Hildebrando. RISK ASSESSMENT OF PHYSICAL VULNERABILITY DUE TO HILLSIDE AND UNSTABLE SLOPES IN THE CAY CREEK WATERSHED, IBAGUÉ, TOLIMA, COLOMBIA. Cienc. Ing. Neogranad. [online]. 2016, vol.26, n.2, pp.111-128. ISSN 0124-8170.  https://doi.org/10.18359/rcin.1800.

This research paper presents a risk assessment tool for physical vulnerability associated with unstable slopes, based on a research entitled "Characterization and Hazard Analysis of Landslides at the Cay creek watershed (Ibague, Tolima, Colombia). An equation that relates the key factors influencing the hazard and exposed elements associated with physical vulnerability is presented. Each factor and exposed elements are categorized. The product of hazard, physical vulnerability, and the likelihood of occurrence results in the parameter Risk associated to Physical Vulnerability (RVF), which is classified from low to very high according to the effect of the hazard event on the exposed physical elements. A risk assessment associated with the physical vulnerability of the areas of greatest instability in Cay Creek watershed was obtained. This can be used to design civil engineering works to prevent and control the damages caused by instabilities on the physical infrastructure of the Cay creek watershed. The proposed equation is a valuable tool for decision makers to prioritize investment of public resources.

Palabras clave : vulnerability; hazard; risk; hillside; unstable; creek watershed.
