Abstract

MARTINEZ PADUA, Juana Valentina; QUITIAN MONROY, Julián Stiven  and  CASTIBLANCO JIMENEZ, Ivonne Angélica. Characterization and comparison of agile and traditional product development methodologies. Cienc. Ing. Neogranad. [online]. 2022, vol.32, n.2, pp.9-26.  Epub Dec 30, 2022. ISSN 0124-8170.  https://doi.org/10.18359/rcin.5168.

In 1968 the first product development methodology was formalized, and currently, there are more than 45 methodologies in the literature that integrate into their stages factors that allow the successful creation of a product, either tangible or intangible. Over the years, methodologies have incorporated a variety of factors in their stages to successfully create a product. Despite this, no research has been found in the literature that integrates the most relevant factors, allowing a comparison of development methodologies. This article has two objectives: first, to identify the main factors by means of qualitative content analysis in order to use them for the elaboration of a development methodologies comparison matrix, and second, to elaborate two weighting tables in which the frequency of the factors in agile or traditional methodologies and the frequency of the most relevant factors in the technology sector will be exposed. It is expected that the results obtained will provide future researchers with a starting point that will allow them to understand thoroughly the main factors of the methodologies for their eventual selection, including the most representative ones for the technological sector, besides serving as an input for the creation of agile or traditional methodologies focused on product development.

Keywords : product development; methodologies; agility; qualitative content analysis; technology sector.
