LOPEZ ALBA, Andrea e BOTELLO PENALOZA, Héctor Alberto. INTERNET USE AND LABOR MARKET: EVIDENCE OF JOB SEARCH IN ECUADOR 2018-2019. Tend. [online]. 2022, vol.23, n.1, pp.252-276. Epub 15-Fev-2022. ISSN 0124-8693. https://doi.org/10.22267/rtend.222301.190.
Now-a-days the use of the Internet allows for different activities that were previously performed in person, thus increasing the productivity and economic growth of countries. However, it is essential to have the necessary knowledge to associate its use with productive activities in society. This document investigates the effectiveness of the use of the Internet in the search for employment in the Ecuadorian labor market. The methodological design incorporates a discrete choice model that involves a treatment variable (job search method) and control variables (socioeconomic characteristics of individuals) to calculates the probability of finding work. The research uses microdata from the National Survey of Employment, Unemployment and Underemployment (ENEMDU) collected by the National Institute of Statistics and Censuses of Ecuador (INEC) in the years 2018 and 2019. The main results suggest that the search for job opportunities through the internet increases the probability of finding employment by 3%. It is also found gender, educational levels, age, stratum and geographic location of the worker significantly impact the probability of finding employment.
