HIDALGO VILLOTA, Mario Eduardo y TARAPUEZ CHAMORRO, Edwin Ignacio. THE QUALITY OF WORK IN COLOMBIA: A NATIONAL CONCERN. Tend. [online]. 2023, vol.24, n.1, pp.79-109. Epub 05-Oct-2022. ISSN 0124-8693.
This article examines the quality of work and labor precariousness in Colombia, taking the pillars of decent work promoted by the International Labor Organization (ILO) since 1999, as well as the measurement of labor precariousness in the context of the transformation of the world of work. Two weighted indexes for measuring the quality of work (one of an objective nature based on pillars and the other subjective, centered on workers' perceptions) and a weighted index of labor precariousness are constructed, using anonymized microdata from the Large Integrated Household Survey (GEIH) conducted by the National Administrative Department of Statistics (DANE) in June 2022. The results show that the low quality of work is an economic and social concern with little attention from the Colombian State, with 37.4% and 24.4% for urban and rural salaried workers and 17.0% and 29.5% for urban and rural self-employed workers, respectively. Similarly, the level of labor precariousness is low with 24.9% and 23.6% for urban and rural salaried workers and 27.6% and 34.8% for urban and rural self-employed workers, with slight differences between men and women.
