Resumen

SOBREIRA, Fábio Moreira et al. PATH ANALYSIS OF POST HARVEST IN SALAD TOMATOES TYPE. Rev. Fac. Nac. Agron. Medellín [online]. 2009, vol.62, n.1, pp.4983-4988. ISSN 0304-2847.

This study aimed to demonstrate the viability of using path analysis of post harvest resistance in salad tomatoes type (Lycopersicon esculentum), analyze the variables key involved and guide the selection of material for breeding programs. We applied a randomized complete block design, with three replications and ten fruits per plot. Data analysis adopted is a causal diagram illustrating the resistance considering post harvest as basic variable and the explicatory variables: fruit mean diameter, peduncle scar diameter, mesocarp thickness, soluble solids content and pH. We perform the variance analysis, genotypic correlations, the multicolinearity diagnosis, and the display of genotypic correlations through path analysis. Path analysis of post harvest it is efficient, suggesting that their use is not restricted to the productive characters. The peduncle scar diameter and the fruit mean diameter are the characters that more explained the variations of post harvest resistance in tomato salad type. Increases in post harvest resistance can be obtained through indirect selection by peduncle scar diameter. This increase will be higher if among the fruits with smaller peduncle scar diameter, the fruits with higher fruit mean diameter would be selected.

Palabras clave : Breeding; indirect selection; post harvest; Lycopersicon esculentum.
