The findings from a research project on land ownership and its implications on women's lives are presented. The information was collected among women from two small farmer's associations, both located in the province of Antioquia, Colombia. In these communities there is tendency toward the feminization of small scale farming, due to the fact that men migrate to other economic opportunities and/or get involved with armed groups. The objectives were to document and analyze the effects that are generated when women farmers have access and control of land. The methodology used was qualitative, using tools such as interviews, workshops, and field trips. Principal findings indicated that access to land ownership has multidimensional effects (ecologic, economic and political), where a series of gender dynamics along with limited distribution, access, and use of these resources by women. This problematic requires the recognition of women as farmers with rights; without this recognition, the farming economy will become more vulnerable, increasing the socio economic, political, and economic risks, not only in rural areas, but also in the cities, already under pressure from highly impoverished massive migrant populations. Since a human rights perspective, it is fundamental for women to have access to resources for production.
