VELEZ ZEA, Juliana María; GUTIERREZ RAMIREZ, Luz Adriana  e  MONTOYA CAMPUZANO, Olga Inés. Bactericidal Evaluation of Lactic Acid Bacteria Isolated in Sow Colostrum Against Salmonella tiphymurium. Rev. Fac. Nac. Agron. Medellín [online]. 2015, vol.68, n.1, pp.7481-7486. ISSN 0304-2847.  https://doi.org/10.15446/rfnam.v68n1.47834.

In intensive farming systems especially in pigs, the antimicrobial resistance of some pathogenic bacteria has become a global problem, both for producers and consumers. The use of probiotic microorganisms isolated of sow colostrum in intensive farms have demonstrated the ability to inhibit the growth of some enteric pathogens. Two of these strains named as BAL1 and BAL3 were chosen for evaluate the bactericidal potential of their extracts against the pathogen Salmonella typhimurium. The well diffusion method, in Mueller Hinton agar was used. The BAL extracts were obtained, adjusted the BAL inoculum in MRS broth at 0.5 MacFarland, centrifuged at 6,000 rpm for 5 minutes and filtered with a 0.2 um membrane. Both extracts demonstrated to have bactericidal activity against this bacterium with mean inhibition halos of 11 mm in vitro.
