Abstract
VERA MARIN, Bladimir and SANCHEZ SAENZ, Mauricio. Record of some medicinal plants grown in San Cristóbal, municipality of Medellín (Antioquia - Colombia). Rev. Fac. Nac. Agron. Medellín [online]. 2015, vol.68, n.2, pp.7647-7658. ISSN 0304-2847. https://doi.org/10.15446/rfnam.v68n2.50979.
Medicinal plants play an important role in the health of people in rural areas, because primary needs are cover through them. Similarly, ethnobotanical inventories of these plants are important sources of information for the future development of such alternatives in communities where this knowledge is lost or missing. In three villages in the district of San Cristobal (Medellín, Antioquia) for a period of seven months was carried out the inventory of medicinal plants grown by farmers. We collect 105 species in eight orchards, of which the 41 most cited or important are reported here. The latter are distributed in 17 families and 31 genera, Asteraceae was the most representative with 7 species, followed by Apiaceae and Lamiaceae with 6 each, and Verbenaceae and Amaranthaceae with 4 each. The high number of species recorded in such a small area and the wide range of medicinal uses are the most important results. It is hoped that this document will be a good contribution to the knowledge of medicinal species in rural areas of the municipality of Medellín.
