Resumen

ALBERICO, MICHAEL; SAAVEDRA-R., CARLOS ARTURO  y  GARCIA-PAREDES, HUGO. House bats of Cali, Colombia. Caldasia [online]. 2005, vol.27, n.1, pp.117-126. ISSN 0366-5232.

Between December 2000 and June 2002 a total of 117 roosts were located for house bats in Cali, Colombia . Seven species of house bats were registered in buildings, aproximately one-half of the bat species reported for the city. Molossus molossus was by far the most frequent and abundant bat species encountered in man-made structures, followed by Eumops glaucinus, Noctilio albiventris, Eptesicus brasiliensis, Glossophaga soricina, Tadarida brasiliensis and Saccopteryx leptura. Here, we describe some ecological aspects of the bats and their roosts. This information could be used for bat conservation programs and to resolve conflicts created between man and bats in urban settings. This paper represents a portion of the results of the project: “Bat house project: an alternative for bettering the quality of life and for the conservation of diversity,” financed by Colciencias and carried out in Cali.

Palabras clave : Bats; Chiroptera; diversity; roosts; urban ecology.
